They founded a school, where dramatic performances played an important role in their educational system. These performances had the role to cultivate the religious feelings of the fervent faithful and to educate them morally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between 1773 and 1780 the Franciscan monks and their students played dramatic plays taking advantage of the arrival of thousands of pilgrims to the Mary of Cs\u00edksomly\u00f3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The school plays varied greatly in subject:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>dramatisation of biblical events<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the lives of the saints<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hungarian histories<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>exhortations from social life.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The settings of the performances have also changed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the theatre built by the Mary Company, which was next to the school<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the open air at the crossroads of Jesus Pass.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The playwrights were pastors, whose aim was to strengthen believers in the faith, reprove sin and practice the virtues. There is singing in almost every play, and dancing in one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The performers of the plays are deacons, rectors, poets, parvista maiors, principists, grammatists and syntaxists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Manuscripts that have survived:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I. Passion 47 pieces.<br>II. Comic Actions 7 pieces, Tragic Actions 6 pieces<br>III. (The title of the third volume is missing) 8 pieces<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The last performance for which we have records was in 1841. This was probably, with the achalme of a Christmas pageant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(P.S. Data based on Ferenc Szl\u00e1vik and \u00c1rp\u00e1d F\u00fcl\u00f6p.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Passion play at Cs\u00edksomlyon in the 20th century<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An attempt at a reconstruction based on paintings by Mih\u00e1ly Munk\u00e1csy on Pentecost 1946. &#8220;Living pictures&#8221; were performed, still scenes. Actors are girls and boys of the sculpture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Choir director: Fr.
